Alternate Gift International and Ten Thousand Village markets were a success!

Again this year we had a great time at our fall markets. We were able to help some poorer countries in addition to getting a little Christmas shopping done. Two options were available:

Many selected one or more of the 34 projects that AGI presents. With a small donation, we were able to make contributions in a loved one’s name. Cards and descriptions of the projects were available for the gift recipient. In the United States we all have so much! It is a blessing to know we have helped someone that has so little. Some were able to help with fresh water sources in Haiti. Others helped provide additional protection for gorillas against poachers in Africa. Etc.

TEN THOUSAND VILLAGES has been representing 100 artisan groups in 30 countries since 1946. Selling of these crafts in the USA and Canada gives the artisans in poor countries a chance to change their lives. Ten Thousand Villages pays the craftsman half of the agreed upon price at the beginning of the project. This income allows for the purchase of needed materials. The artisan receives the balance of their money when the craft item is complete and is shipped from his country. This source of income allows artisans to better there living conditions and provide education for their young. This year we received over $4500 worth of beautiful crafts from around the world. What fun it is to see the lovely vases and tea pots from Viet Nam, exquisite jewelry, musical instruments, baskets from India, and Africa.
